In the Cloud with Sage 100 Contractor

May 14, 2013

The number of clients and prospective clients that have been migrating to the cloud or have expressed an interest in the cloud hosting has been increasing rapidly over the past few months. At the most  recent International Builder’s Show in Las Vegas in January, almost every builder that visited the Sage Booth asked about the ability to run Sage in the cloud.

Since then, we have assisted dozens of existing and new clients implement their software on the cloud..  Those clients have had many reasons for wanting to be on the cloud, but those reasons seem to narrow down to a few commons situations.

  • Remote connection to Sage:  I many cases, our customer either want to be able to access their Sage software remotely as they travel, work in multiple locations or provide access to personnel at job site offices.  Historically, this was done using home office server based solutions such as remote desktop, Citrix or GoToMyPC.   The challenges with these have often been cost and time of an outside IT company to setup and configure these solutions,  and the necessity to monitor and administer the applications on an ongoing basis.  Our clients that moved to the cloud were up and running in both the field and home office within 24 hours of signing up.
  • Networking Infrastructure Hurdles:  Some of our clients were having issues with their current hardware and networking software that was causing problems running or installing our Sage software.  In one case, the client was a small unit of a large corporation, and they could not garner the attention of their corporate IT staff to allocate space on existing servers, set up proper security protocols, and update individual workstations.  In another case, a client’s servers and operating systems were old and in need of a significant upgrade to provide remote connectively.  Having their Sage software hosted in the cloud easily solved those issues at a very affordable price.
  • Sage on a MAC?  Yes, we can operate Sage software on Macintosh computers using the cloud.  A recent new client is an engineering design company heavily invested in Apple technology.  Our cloud remote desktops are device independent, so we were able to set them up on their Mac’s, iPads and even iPhones!
  • Rapid Deployment for Virtual company.  A recent new client was embarking on a new project that got started sooner than expected.  There were multiple users that were involved with the project, all working from home offices or job site trailers.  They had neither the time, the  resources nor a physical location to deploy a traditional on premises server based solutions.  For an affordable monthly fee, their environment was set up in a few days, and they were able to start managing their project immediately with Sage.

So whether you need remote access, have hardware issues, need to deploy quickly across multiple device types, implementing your Sage solution on the cloud may be a great solution to your challenges.
