Oh those annoying print journals. As you know all too many times when completing tasks in Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (Formerly Timberline Software), those annoying journals are required to print. Although they’re often helpful, they seem to be a nuisance for many.
While we can’t get rid of the print journal process completely, Sage 300 Construction now has an option to specify that the journals automatically print to a file, to the location indicated, and using specified file naming conventions.
To implement this process, complete the following steps.
1. From Sage Desktop, select Common Tasks – Tolls – Options. From TS-Main, select Tools – Options
2. Check “Automatically print journal to file”
3. Establish Journal Folder to print to by adding desired criteria
The Journal Folder is created by selecting each “item”, then clicking the “Add” button. In the example above, click the Year from the drop down list, then click Add, select Application from the drop down list, click Add and so forth.
4. Setup the Journal File naming convention. Add the items as you did in establishing the Journal Folder.
5. Click OK and you’re all set. Now when you print a report the default print file will display by default
To print the fill after, select File, Printout, the browse to the desired folder and drill down to the appropriate folder, based upon the Journal Folder naming convention. Below the folder path is displayed.
In this example, I established the Journal Folder path to be Year\Application\User. Therefore the system created the folder \2013\AP\Rchilds. Timberline uses the two letter abbreviation for each application. For example, JC – Job cost, PM – Property Management, PJ – Project.
In this example, the file names are named as the task_Year_Month_Day_Time
All data folders are created under the existing Timberline Data Folder.
If use you multiple data folders, the Journal Folders are created under each data folder.
